The Mag mobile app shown across two phones

The Mag started from a simple frustration with how culture gets consumed on social media. Platforms like Instagram are optimized for attention, controversy, ads, and whatever keeps people scrolling — not necessarily for actually discovering music, fashion, art, or the people behind them. The idea was to create a more focused place for street culture and rap: no rage bait, no ads, no algorithmic bullshit. Just a carefully designed space for stories, videos, releases, products, and the wider culture around them. What we designed and built for it: a product that feels closer to a native social app than a traditional online magazine, with news, video, and merch living inside one swipeable navigation system so moving around feels continuous. A dynamic top surface that works like an editorial Dynamic Island — a featured story, video, product, or event temporarily becomes the focus of the interface, expanding when there is something worth showing and collapsing as you move deeper. A feed with actual hierarchy instead of an endless stream of identical cards: featured stories get more space, secondary content stays scannable, and the layout changes with what deserves attention. Plus article pages, product and merch moments, and sponsored placements — keeping the speed and familiarity of a social feed while the publication stays in control of the story.
